Are you sure the service_name you provided in the connect descripter is correct?

Can you connect to the database without specifying service_name ?

Hi,

I am not able to connect to database without specifying service_name.
Could you please let me know how to check service_name?

when i am trying to connect from command prompt its giving like shared memory realm does not exist.

Could you please let me know what could be the problem?

Process i did:
I have installed windows 2003 enterprise edition in PIV system with 1 GB RAM. After that i have configured ADS and DNS server for this system.
After that i have installed oracle 10g, when i installed its working fine. After i restart the system its giving problem.

Thanks,
Raja.

Here lies the problem " shared memory realm does not exist" .

Oracle database service is not running.

Go to control panel--> Administrative tools --> services

and there you will find a service named "OracleserviceYOUR_DATABASE_NAME" , start this service and then try to login.

Ok that means ORACLESERVICE is running. So it means that your database is down. Do this

--> Login from SQLPLUS as SYS user.

--> Fire this command

 startup
