We would like to uninstall oracle client 8.0.5.0 and install oracle
9.2.. client on about 3000 machines.

Since I couldn't find any good info about doing a silent(automated)
uninstall of 8..

we decided to do the following:

delete c:orant directory.
delete HKLM-Software-Oracle
delete HKLM-System-currentcontrolset-services-oracleclientcache80
delete HKLM-System-currentcontrolset001-services-oracleclientcache80

Would doing this cause any problems in the future?

We will be installing oracle 9.2 - silent install using a response
file.

Thanks

You might have files in c:program filesoracle - I think the installer records a list of what is installed in there, along with the java runtime. If you have the ODBC driver installed, that will no longer work - just dont select it in the ODBC Admin tool!

I have done lots and lots of uninstalls in preperation for re-installs just like this. In fact, for some older versions of oracle, which do not uninstall correctly, this is the way oracle corp recommends!

Hope it goes well for you - I dont envy your task even using automated rollout.
