hi
i tried to install oracle 8i enterprise edition and it got installed.also it works.but when i shut down and boot again and open the database with username scott and password tiger, i get the error aracle not available.the error i find is with ORA-01034.
MY OS IS XP PROFESSIOPNAL WITH P4 PROCESSOR AND 40GB HD,SPEED 1.8GH

Hi... I've also faced the same problem... I think there is a compitability issue with Oracle8i Enterprise Edition and WindowsXP....It's better to install Oracle on Win2000....It will work fine...

Your oracle Database instance is NOT available and open to public.
goto the controlpanel/services start the oracleINSTANCENAMEprocess and your listener process.
Optionally, you can use the autostart option.
If you dont find the servicenames, create one using oradim.exe.
