Hi! I have encounter problem with the Oracle 8i recently which causes the particular database to stop responding.
An error found in the alert.log which shown as below..

Any idea what is the cause of the problem, and how to prevent tis from happenning again.

this is bug in 8i related to dispatcher (some thing to do with v$dispatcher_rate stats getting  corrupted) and is supposed to fixed in 9i.
Mostly the reason for database hanging , would be something else.
try to restart the database.
