Hello DBAs

I am very confusing Even i googled i am not clear. Please clarify my doubt.
I am doing Dataguard. Still struggling because of i didn't get answer for my question.

>> Please , Please I am not expert in oracle , Don't ignore to answer this Shocked >>

Quote:
1.FAL_Client = (Should i enter service name , or Db name
2.FAL_Server = Should i enter service name , or Db name)

FAL_CLIENT='whichone'
FAL_Server ='whichone'

ex : Mydb name : ORCL
Sercice name : ORCL

IS there any difference between Service name vs Netservice name in oracle >>

fal_client is the TNS names alias of the local database, fal_server is a comma separated list of the TNS aliases for all other database in the configuration.

@ John;

Really i can't understand that answer.
drprod =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dbtest3.)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = drprod1)
)
)
drstaby =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dbtest3.)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = drstby1)
)
)

** this is my tns file entries **

IN PRIMARY INIT.ORA

FAL_CLIENT='whichone' (drprod , drprod1)
FAL_Server ='whichone' (drstby , drstby1)

Hope this helps to understand my question.

Your tnsnames.ora file configures two tns aliases, they are drprod and drstaby. If the instance reads either the fal_client or fal_server parameter, it needs to find a name that it can resolve with the tnsnames.ora file. So that answers your question.

However, if you insist on using terms that so many people (including you) find confusing, here is their explanation:
The NET SERVICE NAMES are drpord and drstaby. The SERVICE NAMES are drprod1 and drstby1. So a net service name points to a service name. They are certainly not the same thing.

Edit: typo
